Nicole Moudaber brings together pioneering women from across the musical spectrum for a special In the MOOD installment in honor of International Women’s Day 2024. “We go from classical to 140 BPM in 90 minutes, so prepare yourself,” the London-based DJ/producer says of these blistering 21 tracks. “It would be too easy and boring to just select the fiercest techno queens around right now. Instead, I’d like to shine a spotlight on some of my own heroines and mix up the genres.” True to her word, Moudaber kicks things off with a powerful mashup, splicing vocals from Beyoncé, Yemi Alade, and Tierra Whack (from “MY POWER”), while paying homage to composer Wendy Carlos’ early blend of orchestral and rave sounds on groundbreaking 1982 release, Tron (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). “This is someone I believe is the most important female electronic artist alive today,” says Moudaber. “I say it every year, but women in music is not a new thing, despite what we are led to believe. My sisters have been smashing it since the very beginning of electronic music history—and this mix is my attempt to make sure no one ever forgets this.”
