Razor-N-Tape, In The Mix 021: Eddie C (DJ Mix)

nderground figurehead Eddie C is at the controls for Razor-N-Tape’s first In The Mix of 2024. It’s as intrepid, eclectic, and groove-laden as his own music, bringing us Bollywood-inspired house (Tartan’s “Ayo!”), a union of San Francisco dance adventurers with NYC disco legends (“The Gift (40 Thieves Disco Dub)” from 40 Thieves, Cinnamon Jones, and Gary Davis), and a JKriv remix of some psychedelic disco from the constellation Cygnus—via Texas—courtesy of Golden Dawn Arkestra. “It’s a smattering of tunes of various tempos and genres I’ve been playing this past year, including some R-N-T favorites,” Eddie C tells Apple Music. “The mix kicks off with a brand-new one from me and Max Essa! Over the pandemic, we worked remotely (he in Japan and I in Portugal) on a bunch of music which resulted in an album’s worth of material. R-N-T took a listen and I’m proud to say have given the green light on a four-track EP of their picks of the crop—set to drop at the end of February 2024. Another standout tune in the mix I’d like to mention is a collaborative effort between South African kwaito legend Sandy B and Berlin’s boogie-funk don L.J. Simon. Their tune ‘Sukuma’—with a remix from yours truly—is set to release on my label Red Motorbike in spring 2024. I wish everyone out there in dance music land the very best for 2024!”
