MadMan

MadMan

Just when you think Atlanta trap may have grown a bit comfortable in its current formula, here comes BabyDrill, who emerged from obscurity in 2022, mad as hell. MadMan, his second album, offers a heavier take on the sound of hometown heroes like Young Nudy or Gunna with a twist of Chicago drill, some vintage Brick Squad sturm und drang, and the gothic horror of Scarface. It’s released on Nudy’s PDE Records, and the label boss makes a cameo on “Slight Dub” along with 21 Savage (who happens to be BabyDrill’s cousin). But Drill’s a commanding presence on his own—most of all on “BabyDrill vs. MadMan,” a classic alter-ego face-off that sounds as delightfully evil as the fiery album art suggests.
