Valentine’s Day is often about generous expressions of love, and Kali Claire was in a giving mood when masterminding her Home Session—recorded especially for February 14. The South London-born singer-songwriter and producer has served up not one, but two exquisitely stripped-back covers for us. “Get You” is a gorgeous interpretation of Daniel Caesar and Kali Uchis’ 2016 breakout duet (“it sounds like a love letter to me,” Claire tells Apple Music), while “Unthinkable” (“a beautifully honest song”) provides a heart-stopping update on Alicia Keys’ 2009 track “Un-thinkable (I’m Ready).” And what, in Claire’s opinion, is the secret behind writing a great love song? “I think the secret is vulnerability,” she says. “If you express your honest emotions, at least one person on this planet will be able to relate, sympathize, or empathize.”
