There’s a reason this band doesn’t call itself Mountains. Their shimmering alt-pop debut is purely the stuff of beachside glory. On "Oceans," an ode to blossoming love, guitars glisten like rays reflecting off the water, while singer Chris Caines alternates between warm and breezy, punctuating the song with a shout-it-out chorus. The melodies that anchor the tunes on Coasts’ self-titled LP might be simple, but in their hands, they're rendered into magnificent pop opuses, packed with widescreen emotion and arena-sized ambitions.
