First announced in January 2025 as an A24 movie “based on an original idea by Charli xcx”, The Moment arrives a year later as both a commemoration and a send-up of the culture-shifting behemoth that was BRAT, the 2024 capstone of the pop auteur’s long evolution from underground darling to main pop girl. For the soundtrack, xcx (who also stars in the film) tapped close collaborator A. G. Cook, former mastermind of the groundbreaking post-pop label PC Music, as well as BRAT’s executive producer. Here, Cook steps out of his comfort zone for a pulsing score that ebbs and flows between subdued ambient compositions and adrenaline-spiking techno instrumentals. It culminates with “Dread - the Moment”, the eerie remix of Charli’s first hit (“I Love It” by Icona Pop, featuring and co-written by xcx) that she used to close out her Coachella set last year.
