Unreleased Lost Files

Unreleased Lost Files

Truth be told, The Game has one of the most revered discographies in rap since his entrance in the mid-2000s. He’s got a style that’s both distinctively his own yet chameleonic: a rap nerd catalogue of encyclopedic references and name drops, with undying love for the West Coast and the versatility to switch his flows to match the regions of various collaborators. Unreleased Lost Files doesn’t have the cohesion and intention that have marked many of his albums (including The Documentary III, released months before this compilation), but even his cutting-room-floor songs would be album highlights for other artists. “The Dope Ain’t Gon Cook Itself” features the same sort of lurid street details that have made him one of the modern-day kings of gangsta rap, “Punanni” gets lewd with the City Girls over a beat that feels distinctively Miami, and “Pain” has more bars about his conflicted relationship with Dr. Dre and his many losses running blocks of Compton. Add on cameos by YG, Wiz Khalifa, Desiigner, mgk, Quavo and Lil Yachty, and long-time fans of The Game have a new collection of joints to add to their playlists.
