We'll Never Be This Young Again

We'll Never Be This Young Again

Laila! has no interest in coasting. The rising songwriter could play it safe, use her familial connections to secure the co-signs, placements and deals all young artists covet. But, on 2026’s We’ll Never Be This Young Again, the artist shows that while she is very much Yasiin Bey’s (fka Mos Def) daughter, her career belongs entirely to Laila! As such, there’s a sort of desperation that fuels this record, like on the intro, “Apartment 419”, when she asks, “‘Are we having fun yet?/’Cause I’m too young to be this upset/Feel like I’m losing time.” Throughout, Laila! captures what it’s like to be young and have the entire world in front of her, yet desperate to be all the way grown up. She’s equally preoccupied with the unmatchable highs and draining lows of love. On “Woo! Woo!”, she sings over a swinging, inventive alt-pop instrumental: “I don’t wanna feel like we separating/‘Cause I need you to breathe /And you, my baby, everything I need.” It turns out heartbreak never gets any easier, no matter how old we get. Our Favourite Track: The soulful, sweet Teezo Touchdown collaboration “ANGEL”.
