In a sense, the transatlantic link-up from South London to the Bronx was destined: the woozy, melodic street tales pioneered by French Montana and Max B in the late 2000s were no doubt an influence on D-Block Europe, the record-breaking British rap duo initially cosigned by Jadakiss. So it’s fitting that the Moroccan-born veteran hitmaker and Young Adz and Dirtbike LB (who broke The Streets’ record for the rap act with the most Top 10 albums in UK history in 2023) would join forces on WORLDWIDE WAVE, a collaborative deep dive on what it means to be wavy. Think melancholy trap beats, trippy Auto-Tune effects, exorbitant flexing and a heavy dose of pond-crossing grit. The trio flip a Biggie classic into something moodier on “More Money More Problems”, offer wave godfather Max B the spotlight on “Rich Low Life” and pose a valid question on lead single “RICO”: “Why Thug got the same case that Gotti had?/I’m from the city with the RICOs and the body bags.”
