The K-pop group lean into their optimistic side over six dance-pop tracks. K-pop girl group FIFTY FIFTY get their name from the clashing perspectives of hopeful idealism and harsh reality that young people especially can live life torn between. On the group’s fourth EP, 2026’s Imperfect-I’mperfect, members Keena, Chanelle Moon, Yewon and Athena (fifth member Hana was on hiatus for the album) lean into the optimistic side of that duality, inviting listeners into a dream they don’t have to wake from. The six-track dance-pop album bops along on hazy waves of synth, subdued boom-bap and warm harmony. On “Like a Bubble”, an airy pop track about floating through life without worry, the inevitable fall is nothing to be afraid of. Life is similarly sunny on the synth-pop love song “Genie Magic”. Not everything’s perfect on “Took It Too Far”, in which the idols get introspective about struggling to walk away from a toxic relationship, but it’s not worth dwelling on. “As long as we are together, anywhere/Floating all the way to the ends of the universe,” FIFTY FIFTY sing on the acoustic-driven album-ender “Carry On”, leaving listeners to land somewhere soft.
