In 2025, Pittsburgh metalcore crew 156/Silence released the stand-alone single “Our Parting Ways”, a tribute to their late bassist Lukas Booker, who passed away suddenly that year at just 28. Forging ahead, the band is touting From a Distance as the spiritual successor to their 2024 album, People Watching. On “Order & Entropy”, 156/Silence insert a chunky breakdown sequence into an otherwise dreamlike track as vocalist Jack Murray’s lyrics tackle staying focused in the face of tragedy. The alternately machine-like and other-worldly “Proxy Idols” takes on celebrity worship while the piano-led title track “From a Distance” is a love song—featuring a tender vocal cameo from Alex Reade of Australian metalcore squad Make Them Suffer—inspired by Twin Peaks. Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada guests on “Cannon Fodder” and Tony Castrati of Boston goth troupe Crippling Alcoholism appears on “Collateral”.
