More than 40 years on, the Phoenix band’s 16th album continues a late-breaking win streak that stretches back to their self-titled 2016 album. Led by original members Michael Gilbert (guitar) and Eric A.K. (vocals), the band’s seamless blend of thrash and power metal coalesces on propulsive opener “Harvesting the Hate”, the murderous “Blame the Knife” and the cinematic string-section drama of “Rats in the Temple”. Meanwhile, the soaring Queensrÿche-isms of “The Ghost behind my Door” and the blistering “Last Rites” set up the twin guitarmonies and passionate delivery of the Dio-esque “Her Blood your Pain”.
