As a member of the band The xx and later as a solo artist, Jamie xx has softened and stretched modern dance music into something surprisingly intimate—an accompaniment to heady, emotional spaces as much as physical clubs. In his imaginative productions, jungle rhythms, steel drums and ambient instrumentations intertwine with a collage of samples (the whoosh of city streets, dialogue from music documentaries on YouTube), creating a distinctly modern soundscape that has influenced many of his peers. In 2024, he launched a residency with London’s Venue MOT called The Floor, a series of 10 consecutive club nights featuring guests and collaborators. His first Apple Music radio show lets you relive the magic. “I’m so glad to be able to have all these sets in one place for you to listen to,” he says. “Some of my favourite DJs and artists appear in these sets, so I’m very grateful to them. It was a dream.”
