- Vishal-Shekhar serve up a thrilling amalgamation of musical elements in this North-meets-South love story, Chennai Express. “One Two Three Four”—designed to make everyone ‘get on the dance floor’—is an unrelenting banger with street-style lyrical grit to match the film's brisk action-comedy. The album also boasts a rap ensemble in the thumping hip-hop and EDM crossover, “Ready Steady Po”—even S. P. Balasubramanyam gets in on the action, rapping on the pumped-up Hinglish title track “Chennai Express”.
- Vishal-Shekhar composed the music for this quirky 2010 romance starring Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor. Foot-tapping Hinglish anthem “Anjaana Anjaani Ki Kahani” kicks off the album with a bang, and is followed by Lucy Ali's guitar-led rocker “Hairat” before Rahat Fateh Ali Khan mellows the mood with his hypnotic Sufi vocals on the uplifting “Aas Paas Khuda”. KK and Shilpa Rao provide playback on the sweet and sultry duet “Khuda Jaane”, amassing an ensemble of Indian classical instruments arranged in an expansive, contemporary style. Elsewhere, Spanish guitar pops in “Aahista Aahista” and neat call-backs to the classics—like the brassy blasts of Kishore Kumar sampled in title track “Bachna Ae Haseeno”—add splashes of technicolour to well-worn favourites.
- Vishal-Shekhar’s award-winning, retro musical-style compositions for the Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone drama Om Shanti Om feature 12 era-hopping tracks, with lyrics written by Javed Akhtar. K. K.’s vocals shine on the elegantly minimalist arrangement of “Aankhon Mein Teri”, while Sukhwinder Singh belts out the disco-meets-Middle Eastern pop of “Dard - E - Disco”. Strings and ensemble vocals lend the powerful “Deewangi Deewangi” well-earned gravitas (not to mention a host of cameo appearances), managing to capture Bollywood’s four Khans in one frame.
