On their fourth album, California reggae-rock band Rebelution add pleasing pop elements to their repertoire of romantic and roots numbers. The title track and “Notice Me” ply sunny pop backdrops—think UB40 or Magic!—that allow Eric Rachmany’s relaxed vocals and aqueous guitar to drift like a cool breeze over sturdy rhythms. Heartfelt ballads pasted with multipart harmonies (“Fade Away”) sit aside finely crafted traditional reggae (“Against the Grain”), while the addition of veteran Jamaican singer Don Carlos on “Roots Reggae Music” suggests that even as Rebelution’s sound diversifies, their mission remains the same.
