10 Songs, 50 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

After more than a decade playing together, The Teskey Brothers independently released this debut album in 2017. Its authentic take on blues and ’60s Motown, complete with Stax swagger and Memphis horns punctuating songs like “Crying Shame”, quickly attracted a passionate following, leading to this re-release with two bonus tracks. The quartet captured the raw warmth of the era they covet by recording on analogue equipment in their Half Mile Harvest home studio. Josh Teskey’s whiskey-soaked vocals summon the spirit of Otis Redding, while the 12-minute finale, “Honeymoon”, shows the band at the peak of their powers, with guitar work from Sam Teskey that Jimmy Page would proudly claim. Two new tracks are included on this re-release: the horns- and Hammond-inflected swing of “I Get Up” and the melodramatic “Say You’ll Do”.
