SIX60’s Summer Tour Backstage Playlist

When it came to combating the pandemic, New Zealand showed the world how it’s done. And bands like SIX60 are, amazingly, able to reap the benefits by embarking on a long-awaited summer tour. To celebrate the occasion, the group have made a playlist of their favourite backstage tunes. “This is a fun moment for us as a band,” lead singer Matiu Walters tells Apple Music. “The anticipation just before you’re about to hit the stage. We all pitch in songs that get us in the mood for the show. It’s good to have a summer vibe, and most importantly, that you can sing along to the songs we chose.” Read on for more on their favourite tracks on the playlist. Kendrick Lamar, “Money Trees” Marlon Gerbes: “It’s my favourite hip-hop song. When this first came out, it blew my mind, and I’ll always love listening to it before going onstage.” Che-Fu, “Fade Away” Matiu Walters: “A Kiwi classic. This song has and will continue to stand the test of time. Che Fu has always resonated with me and I never get sick of listening to this song.” Rihanna and Kanye West and Paul McCartney, “FourFiveSeconds” Chris Mac: “Incredible production, beautifully understated and featuring one of the greatest of all time, Sir Paul McCartney. It still amazes me that he had such a sizeable hit single 50-odd years after The Beatles.” Toby Keith, “Red Solo Cup” Eli Paewai: “This is the final song that we listen to before we hit the stage for every show. We wouldn’t have it any other way. A band favourite!”
