Demitasse

About Demitasse

The side project of Erik Sanden and Joe Reyes of the Texas art-rock band Buttercup, Demitasse (French for "half cup") emerged in 2014 with a sound that pairs harmony-rich folk with melody-driven indie pop. Sanden, Reyes, and Odie formed Buttercup in 2004. Employing a unique fusion of jangly art rock and a performance style that incorporates elements of visual art, performance art, and installation, the trio have released several well-received LPs, including Captains of Industry (2007) and Battle of Flowers (2017). Sanden and Reyes began operating under the Demitasse moniker in 2014. That same year, they issued their debut album Blue Medicine. 2018's Powercouple saw the duo adopt a more muscular indie rock sound, while 2020's Perfect Life marked a return to the largely acoustic, minimalist folk-pop of their debut. ~ James Christopher Monger
