Malcolm Catto

About Malcolm Catto

Malcolm Catto is a very in-demand British drummer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and record producer. Though best known as the de facto leader of groundbreaking East London psych-jazz-experimental outfit the Heliocentrics, he is also an active session drummer and producer with expertise in genres ranging from rock and jazz to soul, funk, and world music. He's worked with artists as obscure as Connie Price & the Keystones, as important as Madlib and DJ Shadow, and as legendary as Mulatu Astatke, while continuing to make interesting records with the Heliocentrics (like 2020's Telemetric Sounds). Catto has also formed a lasting partnership with guitar rock group Little Barrie that spawned a pair of albums (2020's Quatermass Seven and 2025's Electric War).
