About Junior Reid
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My first time recording for Hugh Mundell, Augustus Pablo said I was singing flat. After practice and growth, by the time I reached King Tubby’s, I was known for delivering intros, solos, and full verses in a single take. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Fred Locks, Black Star Liner Hugh Mundell, Africa Must Be Free By 1983 Junior Reid, One Blood I chose this because of the album’s message: Africa must be free. The Black Star Liner coming into the harbor to free the people. And because, at the end of the day, we are all one blood. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Speak the Truth (Extended Version)” This is my first song, and it brings me back to where my journey began. It went #6 on the pre-release charts in England in ’79 — the track that started a whole wave for me. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? When I walked into the Grammys in ’85 as a nominee — a moment I’ll never forget. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Glory be to the Father, the Son, and the Holy One of Creation. Love and life forever-more. World without end.
