Wertico also co-led Spontaneous Composition and Earwax Control, and led his own outfits, Strapagander, Quintet Thing, and Trio New. He has worked with numerous jazz and pop musicians, notably Lester Bowie, Lee Konitz, and Kurt Elling. He is also a sought-after teacher and clinician, and has made influential instructional videos.
