About Jimmy Dotson
b. 19 October 1933, Ethel, Louisiana, USA. Dotson began his musical career singing blues at a local juke joint, but later developed his skills to encompass drums and guitar. He played in a band with Lazy Lester, and later with Silas Hogan in a group called the Rhythm Ramblers. Although Hogan was the leader of this group, their first record was made with Dotson on vocals. Two singles were issued on Jay Miller’s own Rocko and Zynn labels under Dotson’s name, both in an upbeat R&B vein, quite different from Hogan’s down-home blues sound. Dotson lived in Memphis for several years and had another single issued on the Home Of The Blues label, but moved back to Baton Rouge in the early 80s and resumed his career at Tabby Thomas’ Blues Box club.
