About Chance Hayden

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Age five at a family wedding in San Francisco, I quickly befriended New Orleans based musician C.P. Love who was there to perform. He autographed one of his LPs for me, I thanked him profusely and then returned to my parents asking "what's this?" What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Art Pepper, Art Pepper + Eleven: Modern Jazz Classics Remastered Joe Pass, For Django Ray Charles, Ray Charles Ray Charles' music was some of what I remember hearing earliest as a child and it really clicking as something that I knew I loved. The later two selections from Art Pepper and Joe Pass had a similar effect when I was first getting into jazz. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Shag Bag” A product of the covid pandemic isolation period when musicians had to learn new approaches to keep creating, I went all out on this single which was recorded remotely with stunning contributions from Ronnie Foster, Lenny Castro and more. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Performing as part of the house band for an intimate 63rd birthday concert for Stevie Wonder. People in Portland were (understandably) skeptical that he would actually appear but he did and it was amazing. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Some of my bucket list goals would be touring the great jazz clubs and festivals of the world, recording with more of my favorite artists, garnering more extended recognition in the guitar realm and collaborating with gear companies.
