Sara Dowling

Sara Dowling is a jazz vocalist and classically trained cellist voted Best Vocalist in the 2019 British Jazz Awards. Originally trained at Chetham's School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where she performed the Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto with the Hallé Orchestra and was selected to perform for Yo-Yo Ma, Dowling discovered her artistic identity as a jazz vocalist only after initially turning away from classical constraints. Rooted in influences ranging from Betty Carter and Sarah Vaughan to the Arabic voices of Fairuz and Umm Kulthum, she has built an international career on the European jazz circuit while based in Spain. In 2025, Dowling she released Latin Connections with the U.K.-based Aquarelle Guitar Quartet on the prestigious Chandos label.
