About Luques Curtis

Luques Curtis is an American jazz bassist. With his pianist brother Zaccai Curtis, he co-leads the Curtis Brothers and Curtis Brothers Quartet. He has played on more than 125 recordings since appearing on trumpeter Christian Scott's eponymous debut. The two brothers founded Insight and released A Genesis in 2007, wedding modal post-bop to Afro-Latin jazz. Luques has toured and recorded with dozens of artists including Eddie Palmieri, Gary Burton, Sean Jones, Orrin Evans, Lisa Hilton, Brian Lynch, and many more. As the Curtis Brothers Quartet, they issued Completion of Proof in 2011; Blood Spirit Land Water Freedom in 2012; Syzygy in 2017, and the acclaimed Algorithm in 2019. In 2024, Luques joined percussionists Willie Martinez, Camilo Molina, and Reinaldo De Jesus on Zaccai's Cubop Lives. It took home the prize for Best Latin Jazz Album at the 67th Grammy Awards.
