About Julien Martineau
Mandolinist Julien Martineau is among the performers actively contributing to a redefinition of the mandolin's place in today's musical landscape. His 2013 recording of Raffaele Calace's Preludes, often regarded as a gateway into a demanding and rarely explored repertoire, highlights the instrument's expressive range and virtuoso potential, far removed from the folkloric associations to which it is often confined. As a performer, teacher, and artistic director, Martineau has developed a career that balances fidelity to historical works with an openness to contemporary forms, particularly through transcriptions and commissioned pieces. Without ever seeking rupture, Martineau's career is defined by a thoughtful and consistent continuity, one of a musician who understands how to bring out the full potential of his instrument.
