About Naaz
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Naaz is a Dutch Kurdish singer, producer and writer. Raised in a refugee household, she found freedom in songwriting, many early lyrics now tattooed on her body. As a self taught musician, she's already toured Europe four times. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Billy Joel, The Stranger (Remastered) Frank Ocean, channel ORANGE Lorde, Pure Heroine I learned to write interesting timings through Frank Ocean, I learned storytelling through Billy Joel, and I developed the urge to release music when ''Pure Heroine'' came out by Lorde! Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “azadî” This was my very first song written in my mother language. It is inspired by the Kurdish saying "Jin, Jiyan, Azadî," which means "woman, life, freedom." There is no life without women, and no freedom until everyone is free! What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Alongside music, Naaz moves between disciplines. She composed for theatre company Orkater and will be the lead in an opera. She is currently writing her debut novel, experiences that shape her storytelling and give her work an intimate perspective. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Like many kids, Naaz turned her computer into an instrument to release music instinctively. *The Sky Knows I Exist* marks a shift to organic production and raw performance, honoring the computer while embracing the instruments she later earned.
