Purity Ring

Featuring multi-instrumentalist producer Corin Roddick and singer Megan James, the “future pop” duo Purity Ring are indie darlings who’ve also crafted songs for pop superstar Katy Perry. • Roddick and James were originally members of the indie-rock band Gobble Gobble. Circa 2010, Roddick began experimenting with electronic production and asked James to lend vocals to one of his beats. In 2011, the two released the single “Ungirthed” as Purity Ring. • Their 2012 debut album, Shrines, reached No. 3 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart and was shortlisted for the 2013 Polaris Music Prize. • To celebrate the launch of their online store in 2013, the duo uploaded a cover of Soulja Boy’s “Grammy.” It was so popular that the flood of downloads crashed the site. • Purity Ring’s 2015 sophomore album, Another Eternity, snagged the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums. • Two years later, the duo cowrote and produced three songs on Katy Perry’s platinum-certified Witness album. • In 2020, Purity Ring delivered WOMB, their second album to top Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums.
