About Craig Taborn

Craig Taborn is a pianist, bandleader, and sideman. His distinctive style -- as evidenced by his 2011 ECM debut, Avenging Angel -- is informed by masters of the instrument, from Duke Ellington and Cecil Taylor to Thelonious Monk and Sun Ra. 2017's Daylight Ghosts revealed Taborn's diverse aesthetic interests, from free-leaning group improvisations to chamber pieces in a quartet setting. Transitory Poems appeared in 2019, a live duo with pianist Vijay Iyer. 2020's Octopus was with pianist Kris Davis, after which Taborn digitally released 60 x Sixty -- 60 pieces at 60 seconds each, to be performed in any sequence. He issued Shadow Plays in 2021, an improvised recital recorded live in Vienna. In 2025, Taborn, guitarist Nels Cline, and drummer Marcus Gilmore delivered Trio of Bloom, a collection of originals, covers, and improvisations. 2026's Dream Archives was in collaboration with cellist Tomeka Reid and drummer/electronicist Ches Smith.
