El Andariego

El Andariego (born Juan Carlos Hurtado) is a Colombian singer, songwriter, arranger, and producer. Born in 1968 to a musical family in the rural Cauca region, he moved to Cali upon turning 18, where he joined the group Los Emigrantes, and later worked as an arranger for artists such as Sacha. His 1995 debut solo album, De Trago En Trago, introduced both the style that would characterize his career -- "despecho" songs, a Colombian popular genre dealing almost exclusively with heartbreak, rancor, bohemia, and endless nights spent at the cantina, not too dissimilar from Mexico's corridos and rancheras -- and the song that would become his nickname, "El Andariego" ("The Wanderer"). Over the next three decades he released about 30 studio, live albums, and collaborations.
