About Jaylon
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I remember church choirs and drums made from kitchen buckets. I was surrounded by my uncles’ records for Fela Kuti, Awilo, Craig David, Akon, Don Jazzy. These artists helped me absorb rhythm and melody from generations of African and global music. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Aṣa, Asa [Asha] Craig David, Born to Do It Wizkid, Superstar Born To Do It was one of the first albums I listened to and got me really into smooth R&B with Garage. Asa was just innovative and unique for a Nigerian artist at the time and Wizkid for the impact it had and what it meant for me being very young. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Active” This was something out of the box that I explored in my artistry for the first time, it gave me the confidence to explore Sonic’s out of my comfort zone and the inspiration for this next project, it allowed me to embrace fear and uncertainty. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Working with Akon - it was someone I listened to growing up a lot and it was tangible proof that I can materialize my ambitions and visions as an artist and a peer with someone I considered an inspiration at a very early age. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Absolutely, I would love to have a commercially charting record that represents who I am, my story and a tour that can showcase the vision and narrative I’ve poured into my music to date and inspire younger creatives to do the same.
