About James Brandon Lewis
James Brandon Lewis is a New York-based jazz saxophonist, composer, and bandleader. His writing and playing combine gospel modal, post-bop, blues and R&B. Lewis released two OKeh albums, 2014's Divine Travels and 2015's Days of Freeman. The James Brandon Lewis Quartet issued Molecular in 2020, and followed it with Code of Being and Jesup Wagon with Red Lily Quartet in 2021. Eye of I appeared on Anti-in 2023, and he re-teamed with Red Lily on For Mahalia, With Love the same year. In 2024, Lewis and experimental rock trio the Messthetics released Eye of I, and Transfiguration followed with his quartet. Apple Cores was released in February 2025 and was followed in May by the improvised Abstraction Is Deliverance with the Messthetics. Deface the Currency arrived in 2026 as did Omni, recorded by JBLQ.
