Grammy-nominated DJ and producer TOKiMONSTA creates a signature blend of hip-hop and dance music. • TOKiMONSTA is the stage name of California native Jennifer Lee, who learned to play piano as a young child. She cultivated an early love for classical music and hip-hop before discovering dance music. • After releasing her debut album, 2010’s Midnight Menu, she signed with Brainfeeder, the label run by producer Flying Lotus. She was the first female artist on the roster. • She released her 2013 sophomore album, Half Shadows, on Ultra Records before founding her own indie label, Young Art. • TOKiMONSTA underwent two brain surgeries after being diagnosed with the ultra-rare condition Moyamoya disease in 2015. She temporarily lost all language comprehension skills and her ability to write and produce music. • She wrote her genre-shifting 2017 album Lune Rouge following her recovery. It earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album. She was the first-ever female Asian American artist nominated in that category.
