About KINDRED

The Caribbean duo Kindred specializes in world music with an unmistakably urban feel. Comprised of members Omari and Akinde, Kindred originally formed in 1992 and quickly became one of the biggest groups in the Trinidad and Tobago area. From the beginning, the duo have written and produced their own music (which they dub the ‘new conscious dance music’), with several singles emerging from 1992-95, including ‘Dis Trini Could Flow’, ‘Doh Stop’, ‘Freedom Jam’, and ‘Get On’. In 1996, the duo released their debut, Everything Is Everything, which was followed up two years later by Big Stone And Fire. On the strength of their two albums, Kindred made some serious inroads into other markets, as their music video for ‘Do You Like It’ earned some airtime on the US channel Black Entertainment Television (BET). In addition to his Kindred duties, Omari produces other Caribbean artists.
