About Calcinha Preta

Besides being one the most popular and enduring Brazilian forró groups to emerge since the 1990s, Calcinha Preta played a key role in the revamping of the regional genre into electronic forró, adding electric guitars, synths, and pop/rock elements into the mix. Founded in the northeastern town of Aracaju (Sergipe) in 1995 by manager and producer Gilton Andrade, the band released its first album A Banda Do Forró Mais Gostosa Do Brasil in 1996, showcasing vocalists Sidney Sanley and Luciana Linhares. It would be only the beginning of a decades-long trajectory over the course of which Calcinha Preta repeated the same patterns over and over again, with almost uninterrupted success. By 2026 Calcinha Preta had become a brand that had released more than 40 live and studio albums, gone through more than 30 different members, and generated countless hit singles.
