Dota

Dorothea Kehr, known as Dota, is a prolific German singer/songwriter whose bright indie pop sound is infused with bossa nova, jazz, folk, and other eclectic elements. Initially a street performer, Dota launched a recording career in 2003, setting up her own imprint, Klingeldprinzessin, to distribute her music. She has since become known for her strong D.I.Y. ethos and independent spirit, releasing a string of successful albums, most of them with her longtime band Dota und die Stadtpiraten. Among her stand-out releases are 2016's Keine Gefahr and a pair of albums -- 2020's Kaléko and 2023's In der fernsten der Fernen -- based on the poetry of German-Jewish writer Mascha Kaléko. Dota returned in 2025 with the sophisticated Springbrunnen.
