About Jay Chou
Jay Chou completely rewired the DNA of Mandopop for the 21st century. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1979, Chou was a classically trained piano prodigy who initially worked behind the scenes as a songwriter. His self-titled debut album in 2000 and its 2001 follow-up Fantasy introduced a sound that fused Western R&B, hip-hop, and classical music with traditional Chinese instruments and poetic structures. With landmark early-2000s albums like 2003’s Yeh, Hwei-Mei and 2006’s Still Fantasy, Chou proved he could master everything from heartbreaking piano ballads to upbeat funk. As Chou moved into the 2010s, his music grew increasingly theatrical and reflective. Albums like 2008’s Capricorn and 2016’s whimsical Jay Chou’s Bedtime Stories showcased a matured artist. Greatest Works of Art (2022) proved his signature alchemy was as potent as ever, weaving Parisian jazz, classical piano, and art history together. Moving into 2026 with Children of the Sun Chou transcended the typical pop life cycle. Chou also crossed over into film, where he found success as both a director, with 2007’s Secret, and an actor in Hollywood films like 2011’s The Green Hornet and 2016’s Now You See Me 2.
