About Horsepower Productions

The London-based Horsepower Productions were widely regarded as early progenitors of dubstep. They started out as a production trio led by central figure Benny Ill alongside Nassis and Lev Jnr (aka Matt HP). They released two albums as a trio: the partial compilation In Fine Style (2002) and To the Rescue (2004). Ill carried the torch solo for almost six years, until he was joined by Jay King. Nassis and Lev Jnr rejoined the group for Quest for the Sonic Bounty (2010), increasing the number of active members to eight. HP returned as a duo to release Crooks Crime and Corruption (2016), this time broadening their sonic palette to include Chicago house and the occasional guitar line. ~ Liam Martin
