About Dickie Henderson
The Sepia label's combination of Paint Your Wagon and Wish You Were Here, both featuring the original London show casts, represents the major discographical documentation of Dickie Henderson, a British comedian who was sometimes credited as Dick Henderson, Jr. His father, Dick Henderson, who died in 1958, was a well-known British actor as well. Father and son appeared together in several films during the '30s, such as the optimistic Things Are Looking Up. Dickie Henderson seems to have shined brightest on BBC television. Besides fronting shows under his own name in the '50s, '60s, and '70s, he also starred in I'm Bob, He's Dickie from 1977. Henderson began acting as a child, appearing in a play by Noël Coward at the age of ten. He received a private education due to the demands of touring, moving between Hollywood and London while performing in both films and music halls. He served in the army in the Second World War, then went back to touring in revues, often specializing in pantomime routines. He first appeared on British television in 1953. He died a bit more than three decades later of cancer. ~ Eugene Chadbourne
