About Seun Kuti

Seun Kuti is the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. He's preserved and extended his father's legacy as the Kuti's choice to lead Egypt 80. A saxophonist and percussionist, he joined the band at age 12 and, when Fela passed in 1997, Seun assumed the mantle. He added his own twist to the music, digging deep into various African traditions to reflect the continent's struggles and cultures. He transformed Afrobeat with an ever-evolving musical signature. Debut Seun Kuti & Fela's Egypt 80 was issued in 2008, and was followed by From Africa with Fury: Rise in 2011. Kuti joined Sinead O'Connor's studio band on I'm Not Bossy, I'm the Boss. He is a first-call session player who has worked with many artists including Jidenna, Bantu, Common, and Janelle Monae. In 2019, Egypt '80 cut a Night Dreamer Direct to Disc Sessions. 2024's Heavier Yet (Lays the Crownless Head) included Damian Marley and Sampa the Great. 2025 saw the release of the single "Emi Aluta Zamrock Remix."
