Proud Ilocano Davey Langit guarantees feel-good escapism with his quirky acoustic pop. The Pinoy Dream Academy graduate’s breezy sound is steeped in easily strummed guitars, and he revels in playful, quirky Filipino and Ilocano lyricism, as in “Idjay” and the massive hit “Selfie Song” from 2017’s Biyaheng Langit. Yet there’s a serious side; 2020’s “Dungo” (Ilocano for “beloved”) is a love letter to his mother tongue, augmented by ethnic elements added to his signature sound. Langit has created a compellingly playful and bilingual songbook that both comforts and helps crack a smile.
