About Apollo's Fire

Based in Cleveland, Ohio, Apollo's Fire is an innovative, popular, and critically acclaimed group devoted to repertory from the Renaissance, Baroque, and early Classical eras. Founded in 1992 by harpsichordist and conductor Jeannette Sorrell, it had achieved widespread acclaim by the mid-'90s. A pair of recordings from 1999 -- Monteverdi's Vespers and Nöel Ancien -- were both critical successes and augured further artistic triumphs. The 2011 release Come to the River exemplified Apollo's Fire's efforts directed toward the performance of American folk music. The group also ventured into Celtic and Sephardic music. In 2017, it created acclaimed semi-staged performances and a recording of Bach's St. John Passion, offering a kind of freethinking and continuing to push historical performance in new directions. In 2022, Apollo's Fire issued a live recording of Sorrell's O Jerusalem! City of Three Faiths.
