Conductor Julia Jones is active in both opera and orchestral music in German venues as well as in her native Britain. Jones began her professional career as an accompanist at Oper Köln and the Staatsoper Stuttgart. She served as first Kapellmeisterin at the Staatstheater Darmstadt in the late '90s, and in 1998 became principal conductor at the Basel Oper and Theater Basel in Switzerland, remaining there until 2002. In 2008, Jones became conductor of the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, remaining in that post until 2011. In 2016, Jones became music director of the Wuppertal Opera and Wuppertal Symphony. She made three live recordings with the latter. Jones departed from Wuppertal in 2021 but remains active, conducting the Royal Danish Orchestra in Mozart's Requiem, K. 626, in 2022 and returning to the Royal Opera House that year for a new Così fan tutte production.
