Ted Lucas

Detroit musician Ted Lucas was responsible for a spectrum of sounds that helped shift the direction of culture as they cruised by under the radar in their time. Most significantly, Lucas' self-titled 1975 album (the only thing he released under his name during his lifetime) became a blueprint for acid folk that would go on to be perennially discovered by each new generation after existing as a psychedelic obscurity for many years. In addition to working as a Motown session musician and playing in a variety of garage bands, Lucas remained active in music until his death in 1992, quietly amassing a small personal vault of unreleased songs and recordings. Some of these recordings were collected for the 2026 retrospective box set Images of Life.
