About Steve Forbert

American singer/songwriter Steve Forbert first rose to popularity in 1979 with his breakout hit "Romeo's Tune." A melodic slice of Americana-driven rock with a memorable piano melody, the song emphasized his poetic sense of introspection, which became one of Forbert's hallmarks. When his next two albums failed to make as big a commercial impact, he left New York and moved to Nashville, mounting a comeback with 1988's Streets of This Town, which he followed with a string of albums throughout the '90s. His 2002 tribute to Jimmie Rodgers, Any Old Time, earned a Grammy nomination, and Keith Urban's 2007 cover of "Romeo's Tune" helped revive interest in Forbert's biggest hit. In the 2010s, he offered a pair of late-career highlights, 2012's Over with You and 2018's The Magic Tree. Forbert remained prolific in the next decade, issuing a covers album in 2020 titled Early Morning Rain, followed by the original collections Moving Through America (2022) and Daylight Savings Time (2024). He also remixed his 2015 album Compromised and re-released it in 2025 as The Things That I See.
