Joseph Bastian

Joseph Bastian is a conductor who has served as principal conductor of the Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne since 2022 and chief conductor and artistic director of the Munich Symphony Orchestra since 2023. A former orchestral trombonist, he built his conducting career under mentors including Mariss Jansons, Daniel Harding, and Bernard Haitink. His third album as conductor was Mel Bonis: Orchestral Works (2026) with the WDR Sinfonieorchester. The album introduces the rarely heard music of the late-Romantic composer to a wider audience, with soprano Lydia Teuscher, Bastian's wife, and mezzo-soprano Julie Robard-Gendre.
