One of several fifth-generation K-pop groups to come out of a competition show, girl group ILLIT (아일릿 in Korean) debuted in March 2024 following the 2023 survival series R U Next? The group’s debut lineup—consisting of multinational members Yunah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, and Iroha—would be next, finding almost immediate breakout success with their dreamy bubblegum hit “Magnetic,” off of mini-album SUPER REAL ME. The song led ILLIT to break the record for best-selling debut album among female K-pop artists in first-week sales. Other notable ILLIT tracks include “Tick-Tack,” “Cherish (My Love),” and “Lucky Girl Syndrome.” ILLIT gets their name from the English-language phrase “I Will Be It,” which evokes the active pursuit of one’s desires. The group has been known for their young love songs and energetic choreography. ILLIT is part of Belift Lab, a subsidiary of HYBE that also launched boy group ENHYPHEN. As a result, HYBE in-house music-makers, such as Slow Rabbit, Supreme Boi, and “Hitman” Bang (aka HYBE founder Bang Si-hyuk), have had a hand in composing ILLIT’s tracks.
