Carl Carlton

About Carl Carlton

Detroit R&B vocalist Carl Carlton earned some minor chart hits for Back Beat in the late 1960s and early '70s. Along with "Everlasting Love," his biggest hit was "She's a Bad Mama Jama," which earned him a gold record in 1981 and had the odd distinction of remaining at number two for eight straight weeks. He also recorded for ABC, RCA, and Casablanca. In 2010, Carlton transitioned into gospel music, cutting a spiritual single "God Is Good," which earned him a Detroit Music Awards nomination for Outstanding Gospel/Christian Vocalist.
