Bartolomeo Campagnoli

About Bartolomeo Campagnoli

As a capable violinist and composer, Campagnoli traveled throughout Italy as well as Europe and parts of Scandinavia. As a performer his playing was considered to be lucid and smooth but his historical import stems from the works he wrote for teaching. "Nouvelle methode" may have been a contradiction in terms considering Campagnoli employed old methods for the handling of the violin bow. His methods of tuning, however, were considered innovative. The manner in which attention was given to order lead to its extensive use. His compositions included concertos, variations, solos, preludes and fugues, and duets. ~ Keith Johnson
