Akusmi

French-born, London-based composer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Pascal Bideau fuses world music, spiritual jazz, and minimalism into a hypnotic, polyrhythmic stew. Born in 1978, Bideau grew up in a musical household. He started to play music at the age of seven and became fascinated with recording and overdubbing; later he studied at Goldsmiths College, London, graduating with a degree in jazz and popular musicianship. Bideau began his musical career as a composer for commercials, documentaries, and feature films. After experiencing gamelan during a trip to Bali, he began experimenting with gongs, and hit upon the core of the Akusmi sound after combining gongs and sax for the first time. Bideau's debut album as Akusmi, Fleeting Future, was issued in June 2022. The next year he followed with the more minimalist EP Lines, and in July 2026 he released his second album, Terra Incognita.
